TROY, Alabama – One year after stunning the field at the Tiger Invitational, including No. 5 Auburn, the Troy men's golf team returns to the Grand National Lakes Course in Opelika, Ala., looking to defend its title; teams will play 18 holes on Sunday through Tuesday.
The Trojans rallied from three shots down in the final round last season thanks to rounds of 6-under from Calum Masters and 4-under from Cam Norman to win the event.
Joining No. 88 Troy in the field will be 12 other top-100 teams among the field of 19 teams. The Trojans are looking to bounce back from a disappointing performance at the Gator Invitational in their first appearance of the spring where they finished in 15th place despite a strong final round.
The Trojans are led by four seniors at the top of the lineup with Clayton Vannoy (+1.33 vs. par) and Jared Bettcher (+1.6 vs. par) leading the way. The pair have combined for 10 rounds under par this season with 26 of a possible 30 rounds counting towards the team card.
Norman (+2.0 vs. par) and Luke Moser (+2.13 vs. par) are close behind with a combined six rounds under par and three rounds in the 60s. Masters, who tied for sixth place at the event last season, enters this year's tournament +3.93 vs. par on the season.
Against a field that featured nine top-50 teams, Troy closed the Gator strong two weeks ago with the sixth-best final round score. As a team, the Trojans are +6.0 vs. par per round this season through five events.

Quotable
"We've had two good weeks of practice since coming back from the Gator, and we're hungry to get back on the golf course and show that the team who played two weeks ago in Gainesville is not what Troy golf is all about," head coach Matt Terry said. "I'm proud of our leaders stepping up over the past two weeks and taking ownership of this team as we try and make up the ground we lost the last time out."
T-Time
The Trojans will be in the first pairing on the golf course and they will play with some familiar faces. Troy will open on No. 10 beginning at 7:42 a.m. and will be playing with Sun Belt Conference foes South Alabama and Georgia State.
