Austin Crook Named Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week

TROY, Alabama – Troy senior Austin Crook was named Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week, the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper announced on Monday.

Crook struck out a career-high 14 batters in Troy's 7-5 victory over No. 15 UL Lafayette on Saturday. The southpaw tossed 8.2 innings, the longest outing of his career, allowing just two earned runs on four hits. His previous high strikeout total was five against Hofstra on March 11. It was the most strikeouts by a Troy pitcher since Grant Bennett also fanned 14 Georgia Southern batters on March 14, 2015. Crook entered the game with 12 strikeouts over 20.2 innings this season.

With the win, Crook improved to 4-0 on the season and more impressively 80 in his career overall and 4-0 against Sun Belt foes. He is the eighth different Trojan to be named Collegiate Baseball Player of the Week.

Troy is 13-10 on the season and 3-3 in Sun Belt play. The Trojans travel to face off against UT Arlington in a three-game series starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
