TROY, Alabama – With a Sun Belt Conference road series victory already on the books, Troy opens its home league slate this weekend with a visit from No. 15 UL Lafayette to Riddle-Pace Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday; all three games will be broadcast live on TroyTrojans.com and Friday's contest will be streamed live to Facebook (TroyAthletics).
The Trojans (12-8, 2-1 Sun Belt) took two-of-three at Little Rock last weekend for their first-ever victory in a Sun Belt road series to open a season. A series victory over the Cajuns (11-8, 2-1) this weekend would mark the first time Troy won back-to-back Sun Belt series to open a season since 2011 when the Trojans went on to capture the league title.
Troy split its home-and-home mid-week series with Samford leading into the weekend with each team winning at home, while the Cajuns fell in a pair of home games to Houston and Tulane.
Sophomore second baseman Brandon Lockridge has reached base safely in all 20 games this season and has hit safely in 18 of Troy's 20 contests. He leads the Trojans batting at a .341 clip with nine extra-base hits. Senior left fielder Trevor Davis enters the weekend with a team-leading .957 OPS, while Justin Friend leads the Trojans with three home runs and 16 RBIs.
Junior right-hander Daren Osby (4-1, 2.40) will get the call for the Trojans in the opener against two-time Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week Gunner Leger (4-1, 0.85). Osby has thrown three straight quality starts for Troy with a 0.93 ERA (2 ER, 19.1 IP) over that stretch, while Leger has allowed just three earned runs in 31.2 innings this season and came within one out of a no-hitter against St. Peter's earlier in the season.
Troy head coach Mark Smartt will turn to senior southpaw Austin Crook (3-0) in game two of the series; Crook has peppered the strike zone to the tune of 71 percent strikes this season. Lefty Evan Hebert (1-0, 3.38) is slated to start the finale after holding Samford to one run on one hit in six innings on Tuesday.
UL Lafayette will send right-hander Nick Lee (4-1, 3.49) to the bump on Saturday and left-hander Hogan Hill (1-0, 0.60) on Sunday. The Cajuns are led offensively by Alex Pinero's .333 batting average, eight doubles and 12 RBIs.
