Troy Men’s Golf Tied for Second at Linger Longer, Seven Shots up on Alabama

GREENSBORO, Georgia – Luke Moser carded a 6-under 66 on Sunday to lead the Troy men's golf team in the opening round of the Linger Longer Invitational. Moser is tied for first and the Trojans are tied for second in a field that features 10 teams ranked in the top 75 nationally, including three in the top 20.
Moser carded seven birdies, the second most in the field that features 12 players ranked in the top 100 nationally, including the nation's fifth-ranked player in Virginia's Jimmy Stanger. The Troy senior made the turn at 1-under under before picking up birdies on six of his first seven holes on the back nine; his round tied for the second-lowest in Troy history.
Jared Bettcher fired a tournament-high nine birdies in the opening round as Troy led the field with 24 birdies as a team. Bettcher birdied five of his first six holes and made the turn at 1-under and finished the day tied for 17th after also shooting 1-under on the back.
No. 4 Baylor has a six-shot lead over No. 67 Troy, No. 37 Michigan and UNC Greensboro after day one. No. 8 Virginia, No. 43 Kennesaw State and No. 51 Augusta are three shots back of Troy in a tie for fifth place.
The Trojans continued their hot streak over the past several weeks and are now averaging -5.83 strokes vs. par as a team over the past six rounds. That includes round of 12-under, 10-under and 8-under par.
Clayton Vannoy picked up three birdies in the opening round and shot even par, while Calum Masters had a pair of birdies as he also shot even par; the par is tied for 30th overall. Cam Norman is tied for 50th after carding a pair of birdies and finished 2-over.
Troy will be paired with Baylor and UNC Greensboro for Monday's second round at the group will go off beginning at 9:10 a.m.
