Troy Draws Mississippi State in the NCAA Tournament First Round

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball team will open play in the NCAA Tournament against second-seeded Mississippi State, the team learned on Monday. The Trojans earned the No. 15 seed in the Oklahoma City Region after winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with a 78-67 win over UL Lafayette on Sunday.
Troy (22-10) and Mississippi State (29-4) will face off in Starkville, Miss., on Friday (game time will be released later) in Humphrey Coliseum. The Trojans and Bulldogs are joined in Starkville by No. 7 DePaul and No. 10 Northern Iowa. The winner of each first round game will advance to the second round game with a spot in the Sweet 16 on the line.
Ticket information for the game will be announced on Tuesday.
Troy won the Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship game on Sunday at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans to claim its second consecutive Sun Belt title. The Trojans will be making their third-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Under fifth-year head coach Chanda Rigby, Troy (22-10) has won 20 games in three straight seasons for the first time in program history. The team is eighth in the NCAA in scoring averaging 82.9 points per game and are led by Sun Belt Tournament MVP Caitlyn Ramirez, who averages 13.2 points per game.
Mississippi State finished second in the Southeastern Conference standings and fell to South Carolina in the SEC Tournament championship game. The Bulldogs won a school-record 29 wins and are in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season.
Troy and Mississippi have played 13 times previously with the Bulldogs owning a 2-11 advantage. The teams last played in 2012-13.
