Men’s Golf Ninth After Day One of Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Jared Bettcher carded six birdies and fired a 5-under 67 to lead the Troy men's golf team in the opening round of the Seminole Intercollegiate at the Southwood Golf Course on Friday. The Trojans are tied for ninth place, but just four shots behind No. 31 Jacksonville for fifth place.
Troy carded 15 birdies on the day as a unit with nine coming after the turn. Bettcher sat 2-under after a bogey on No. 12, but birdied three straight beginning on No. 14 to finish his day tied for fourth place overall.
Cam Norman made the turn at 3-under with three birdies on the front nine, but slipped to 1-under for the day and a tie for 30th place overall. Clayton Vannoy had 16 pars on the day to go along with a birdie and a bogey to finish his round at even par; he is tied for 39th place overall.
Calum Masters carded a 3-over 75 and is tied for 66th, while Luke Moser shot 5-over and is in 74th place. Playing as an individual, Jake Tiffin carded five birdies on the day and shot a 1-under 71.
Penn State shot 13-under on the back nine to grab a one-shot lead over host Florida State after the opening round.
Troy will be paired with Western Kentucky and Winthrop for the second round; the first grouping will go out at 7:52 a.m. (CDT) on No. 10.
