TROY, Alabama – The Troy indoor track and field team will compete in their last regular season meet this weekend in the Samford Open at the Birmingham CrossPlex. It will be the fourth time the Trojans have competed at the CrossPlex this season.
Â
The men will not compete in this weekend, as the main focus is to prepare the women's team for the Sun Belt Championships on February 20 and 21.
Â
Troy will begin competition Friday night with the women's 200-meter dash and will conclude with the women's 4x400-meter relay Saturday evening.
Â
QUOTABLE
"This is final tune up before the Sun Belt Championships for the women," Troy head coach Marc Davis said. "We are scaling back the competition load for everyone so we can really start to sharpen up. I feel like we are in a pretty good place. As I have stated all season, we have a very young team, so everyone is still learning from week to week. We are excited to see what happens over the next couple of weeks."Â
Â
PLAYERS TO WATCH
• Niata Alexander, who finished sixth in the 200-meter dash at the Jaguar Invite, will compete in the 200-meter dash again this weekend.
Â
• Allison Taylor, who has set new personal bests in the weight throw two meets in a row, will try to improve once again in the women's weight throw.
Â
• Sara Zylstra, who finished fourth in her first 5000-meter run of the season last weekend, will look to gain some momentum headed to the Sun Belt Championships.
