Final Results
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Troy indoor track and field wrapped up competition in the Sun Belt Championships Tuesday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Â
The Trojans finished ninth, but there were impressive individual showings across the board. Texas State took home the women's title for the second time in the last three years.
Â
For the second consecutive year, Niata Alexander led the team's performances at the meet. Alexander finished third in the 200-meter dash with a team best 24.15-second time. She also ran a team best 55.97 seconds in the 400-meter dash, which put her in sixth place.
Â
Upperclassmen helped carry the team to six top eight finishes. Seniors Riley Schwietz and Allison Taylor closed out their indoor career with a bang. Schwietz earned a fifth place finish in the indoor pentathlon when she scored a team best 3575 points. Meanwhile, Taylor continued her hot streak to yet another personal best in the weight throw – the 17.40m toss was good enough to place seventh in the event.
Â
Freshman Alexis Garrett set a new personal best in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.92 seconds.
Â
Troy also placed fifth in the 4x400-meter relay event – ran by Niata Alexander, Tiarra Bailey, Gemma Finch and Adriana Williams.
Outdoor track and field will start their season at the Jaguar Opener, hosted by in-state rival South Alabama, in Mobile on March 3-4.
