Troy Volleyball Falls to ULM
TROY, Alabama – Jenni Young had a career day with 18 kills, but that wasn't enough as Troy (9-19, 3-10 SBC) fell in five sets to ULM (5-25, 1-12 SBC) on Friday night in the Trojan Arena.
Troy came out looking strong as they earned a convincing 25-12 win in set one with a .310 hitting percentage as they held ULM to a -.037 percentage, but the Warhawks fought back to even the match at 1-1 with a 25-20 win in set two.
ULM used its momentum from the second set to take a 2-1 lead in the match with a narrow 25-22 decision in the third set. Both teams remained neck-and-neck the entire set until the Warhawks went on a 4-0 run to take a 23-20 lead. Two straight points at the end closed out the set as ULM took the lead.
The Trojans rallied back to take the fourth set 25-23 behind a reversed call that gave them the go-ahead lead. Kills from Young and Hayes ended the set as the Trojans forced a fifth, winner take all set.
Troy jumped out with a three point run, but the Warhawks came back knocking. A four-point run gave ULM a 6-4 lead as Troy called a timeout. ULM continued to make timely runs in the game and hold the Trojan offense to just a .083 percentage in the fifth set as they dominated with a .409 attack percentage of its own. The Warhawks earned their first conference win of the season as they capped the fifth set with a 15-9 win.
Young's 18 kills set a new career-high for the sophomore transfer as she paced the way for the Trojans. She also tallied 19 points with two assisted blocks at the net.
Troy's 33 errors were the difference in the match as the offense struggled to find timely points to get the win. The Trojans led the Warhawks in points, aces, kills and assists, but ULM continued to rally to earn its first Sun Belt win of the season.
