Troy Coaches Discuss Signees From Early Signing Period
11/17/2017 10:39:00 AM | Cross Country, Track & Field
Troy University Track & Field added four athletes to the Trojan family in the early signing period. Joining the program are Caroline Franklin (Hoover High School; Hoover, Ala.), Amber Gordon (Hampton High School, Hampton, Ga.), Maya Kelly (Central Medical Magnet High School; Beaumont, Texas) and Caroline Sall (Hoover High School; Hoover, Ala).
Â
Elliot Blount (Head Coach Cross Country/Distance) had nothing but praise about Caroline Franklin:
Â
"Caroline Franklin is an extremely well balanced student-athlete with very good range on the track and will be a contributor in cross country. She will elevate the competition level in her group and is easily one of the more focused and driven athletes I've recruited to Troy. I'm very excited to see what is in store for her as I truly feel she has only begun to scratch the surface when it comes to what she's capable of."
          Â
Coach Blount said the following about Caroline Sall:
Â
"Caroline Sall is going to have an immediate impact and add much needed depth to our women's cross country and distance squad. She has a tennis background and is in her second year of running, so her potential is really an unknown. She comes from a very dominant powerhouse for running in Alabama at Hoover High School. She wants to win and is an absolute treasure of a personality who I feel will really excel in our program."
Â
When speaking about Amber Gordon, Coach Josh Biagtan (Assistant Sprints, Jumps and Hurdles) said:
          Â
"Amber is going to help us out immediately. She was very interested in joining our Trojan family at the beginning of the recruiting year and we were also very interested in having her. She is an awesome student and is very focused and driven to succeed. One thing I really noticed and admire about Amber is that she shows up to compete at important meets and when points are on the line. It is no coincidence she has gotten herself into the Georgia State Finals in the triple jump her sophomore and junior years. I am very confident she will continue to perform at a high level in the years to come, and I can't wait to work with her."
Â
Maya Kelly was the final recruit to sign her NLI for the Troy Track and Field program Wednesday afternoon. Coach Biagtan discussed the addition:
Â
"Maya is a great addition to our program. She comes from a very strong academic background as she goes to a magnet school in which she is specializing in courses to help her with a career in a medical field. Just like Amber, Maya really turns it on and competes very well at the big meets. In her junior year, she found her way to the podium in several important meets (Districts [2nd], Area [3rd] and Regionals [3rd]) and capped the year off with a trip to the Texas State Meet (100m/200m) to score some points for her school. I think she is poised for a great next couple years, and I can't wait to start working with her."
