JONESBORO, Arkansas – Middle hitters Logan Page and Savannah Moore dominated at the net and powered the Trojan offense each posting 17 kills as eighth-seeded Troy took down five-seed South Alabama 3-2 (25-17, 25-20, 24-26, 21-25, 15-13) in the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament on Thursday night.

Troy took charge early after finding its rhythm in the first set. South Alabama took the first two points of the match, but Troy answered back with five straight. The Jaguars tried to rally back, but Troy ended the set with a four-point run to take an early 1-0 lead in the match. Â Â

The Trojan offense continued to find the court in the second set. A few four-point run gave the Trojans a comfortable 14-7 lead. South Alabama inched back in it, but a kill from Moore ended the set 25-20. With 18 kills, Troy hit a match-high .351 in the second set and held the Jaguars to a .171 attack percentage.

Troy seemed to have the match locked up as it took an 18-12 lead in set three, forcing South Alabama to call a timeout. Out of the break, The Jaguars fired back taking five of the next six points to get within two. Both teams battled, but it was the Jags who came out on top taking set three by a narrow 26-24 decision by taking four straight points.

South Alabama used that momentum to force a fifth set, winning set four 25-21. While the Trojans put up a solid .256 attack percentage, their seven errors stumped them, allowing South Alabama to take advantage.

Troy took off with a 3-0 scoring run in the fifth set and never allowed the Jaguars to take a lead. South Alabama fought to get within one at 14-13. With the match on the line, Cheyenne Hayes put up the most important kill so far in her freshman season to take the fifth set 15-13. Â

Moore and Page led the charge for the Trojans, but Belle Waldrop was a dominant force with 13 kills, followed by Hayes with 12. Along with her 17 kills, Page also posted an attack percentage of .560 and added five total blocks.

NOTEWORTHY
- This was Troy's first Sun Belt Tournament win since 2013 when the Trojans defeated Western Kentucky 3-0.
- Troy led the Jaguars in every major category - points (95-70), kills (74-55), aces (6-3), blocks (15-12), assists (71-48) and digs (71-61).
- Page has now hit above a .300 in 15 matches this season.
- The Trojans are now 5-3 in five-set matches.
- Troy's 15 blocks on the night is a season-high. The previous season-high was 13.0 against Georgia State on Sept. 30.
