Trojans Down AUM in Exhibition
11/1/2017 10:20:00 PM | Basketball (W)
TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball team picked up where it left off last season. After leading the nation with 20 offensive rebounds per game, the Trojans collected 28 boards off the offensive glass en route to a 79-54 exhibition win over AUM on Wednesday in Trojan Arena.
Three Trojans scored in double-figures led by Tyler Junior College transfer Sky'Lynn Holmes. Freshmen Jasmine Robinson and Janiah Sandifer turned in 11 and 10 points, respectively. Amber Rivers came up one point shy of a double-double with nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
"We didn't put up big numbers like we like to do," Troy head coach Chanda Rigby said. "We're finding out what we do well and what we need to work on. We need to work on making easy shots and rebounding. We had a lot of freshmen who stepped up since we have several older players out. They really stepped up and did a great job."
Overall, 10 players saw action for Troy including four freshmen.
The Trojans took a 37-19 lead into halftime and put the game away with a 27-point fourth quarter. Troy shot just 32.4 percent (33-102) percent from the field but held AUM to just 29.2 percent (21-72) shooting. True to Rigby's style, the Trojans forced a slew of mistakes pressing AUM into 33 turnovers on the night.
Troy hosts Stillman to open the 2017-18 regular season on Nov. 10 at 12 p.m.
