Troy Brings Home Hardware from Mercer Gridiron Classic

MACON, Georgia – The Troy women's tennis team returned home from the Mercer Gridiron Classic on Sunday with a handful of first place trophies. The Trojans came out on top in every draw that they participated in.
After each winning their respective semifinal matches earlier in the tournament, seniors Efriliya Herlina and Jiayuan Xue faced each other in the finals on Sunday. After a hard-fought match on both sides, Xue pulled away with the 6-4, 7-5 win as the Main Draw B winner.
While Xue and Herlina were placed against each other in singles play, the pair came together as a team on the doubles court to earn a convincing 6-1 win over a duo from Georgia Southern to take home the first place trophy in the Main Draw A flight.
Back in singles play, Freshmen Maria Casas Blas and Matea Mihaljevic also won their semifinal matches on Saturday to face each other in the Main Draw C singles finals. Due to the weather, the match was suspended at 4-4. Casas Blas and Mihaljevic will finish the match in Troy at a later date.
Sanae Ohta and Hannah Seizer each played in back draws winning their first matches and leading in their second matches before play was stopped due to weather.

Troy will continue tournament play as it travels to Auburn, Ala., to play in the ITA Regional Oct. 19- 23. Draws and match times are TBA.
