Troy Volleyball Falls to South Alabama
TROY, Alabama- A career-high 17 kills from sophomore Jenni Young wasn't quite enough to give the Trojans a victory over the South Alabama Jaguars on Saturday in the Trojan Arena.
Troy (6-14, 1-5 SBC) started the match off looking for redemption from its midweek loss to South Alabama. The Trojans came out of the gate hot and picked up a 29-27 set one win to take an early lead in the match.
South Alabama (11-5, 6-0 SBC) fired back in the second set taking the first five points before the Trojans were able to get one the board. Troy rallied back and tied the set at 10-10 before a couple five-point runs by the Jaguars gave South the 25-17 victory and tied the match at 1-1.
Both teams fought for a lead in the third set, but South Alabama ran away with a lead as the Jaguars earned a 25-15 win. The South Alabama defense was too powerful as the Trojans posted a match-low .026 attack percentage in the third set.
Troy rallied back and put up a match-high .359 attack percentage in the fourth set. They took a 11-6 lead in the match looking to force a fifth set. But a few timely runs from South Alabama gave the Jaguars a 26-24 win in set four to clinch their sixth Sun Belt win of the year to remain undefeated in conference play.
Young led all players with 17 kills, followed by Savannah Moore with 12. Troy put up two more points than the Jaguars, but couldn't find timely answers to the powerful South Alabama offense.
QUOTABLE
"I am super proud of the way our team dug in and fought," head coach Josh Lauer said. "When we are playing like that against the number one team in the conference, we are right there so we just have to execute a little bit better down the stretch and I think good things are going to happen. I am really proud of the effort today."

• Belle Waldrop continues to lead the squad with 180 kills (2.47 kills/set)
