STATESBORO, Georgia – After winning the first set of the match, the Trojans fell to Georgia Southern 3-1 on Thursday night at the Hanner Fieldhouse.

Troy (6-15, 1-6 SBC) started the match with a chip on its shoulder, looking for redemption as the Eagles swept the Trojans earlier in the season at the Trojan Arena. Troy took set one 25-23 posting a .294 hitting percentage and a .500 kill percentage.

Georgia Southern (7-11, 3-4 SBC) fired back taking the next two sets 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Troy's .167 and .051 attack percentages in the second and third set gave the Eagles the opportunity to swing the momentum.

The Eagles came out to close out the match in the fourth set as they went on an eight point run taking an early 13-3 lead before the Trojans were able to get back on the board. Another five-point run from Georgia Southern extended its lead and a kill from Anna Wenger capped the match with a 25-14 set four win for the Eagles.

Sophomore libero Bethany Cullity swapped positions tonight moving from the backline to the net. She led the team with a career-high 11 kills, but stayed true to her old ways also recording a team-high 12 digs for the Trojans as well as serving up two aces.

The Trojans outperformed the Eagles in every major category other than aces, but couldn't find the timely answers they needed to keep the powerful Georgia Southern offense at bay.

NOTEWORTHY

Troy led the Eagles with 49 kills compared to 42 from the home side of the court, but the Trojans' 29 errors was critical in the loss.
Cullity recorded the first double-double of her career with 11 kills and 12 digs.
Alisha Hinrichs made her first appearance since Troy faced Murray State in September. Hinrichs put up four assists and two digs for the Trojans.
Trojans fall to 0-8 on the road

UP NEXT
Troy continues road play as it travels to Atlanta to face Georgia State on Friday at 5:30 CT. Troy defeated the Panthers in five sets earlier in the season at the Trojan Arena.
