Troy Struggles To Gain Momentum On Day Two

MACON, GEORGIA –

DAY ONE

Troy men's tennis battled throughout the course of the day as the Trojans had strong showings from their young players in both doubles and singles play in the first day of the Mercer Gridiron Classic.

The Trojans got off to a slow start as the only doubles victory out of four matches came when Shaaz Peerani and Andy Lau won 6-4. Jiaqi Duan and Antonio Selma stretched their match out but eventually fell 5-7.

Consolation doubles, however, was more successful as Duan and Selma rallied for a 6-4 win and Sam Bird and Chris Tasker took their match 6-1.

Antonio Selma battled through adversity to win 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Sam Bird also saw himself win a close one as he took his match 7-6, 6-2. Andres Romero prevailed 6-1 in straight sets while Peerani went undefeated on the day with a 6-0, 6-2 singles win.

DAY TWO

The second day of the Mercer Gridiron Classic didn't go Troy's way as the Trojans were only able to win two out of nine singles matches on the afternoon.

Advancing for Troy was Shaaz Peerani who had a dominating 6-2, 6-1 win in the round of 16 before falling in a three-set match 7-5, 2-6, 2-6 in the quarterfinal round.

Senior Andy Lau had a similar fate as he won his round of 16 match 6-4, 6-3 before also dropping his quarterfinal match 6-4, 2-6, 4-6.

No other player was able to make it to three sets in their round of 16 draws while the only doubles match on the afternoon saw Peerani and Lau fall 3-6.
