TROY, Alabama – The back-to-back Sun Belt Conference women's basketball champions hit the court for the first full team practice of the season on Monday. The session lasted about two hours and was followed by a meet and greet session with fans.
"I don't know if I've ever been as excited to start a season," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "We have eight new players, but they are very talented."
Troy needed to replace seven letterwinners from last year's squad including four starters. Rigby and company filled the voids with a mixture of high school and junior college talent. Four freshmen will join three transfers and seven returners when the season opens against Stillman on Oct. 10 at Trojan Arena.
"I'm really excited, we have a new team and I feel like we're going to do special things," senior center Dajia Williams said. "I definitely feel like we have the talent to get the three-peat that we're going after."
The Trojans' turnaround under sixth year head coach Chanda Rigby has been well-documented. After winning two games in 2004-05, the year before her arrival, Troy is one of just 36 NCAA Division I teams to win at least 20 games in each of the last three seasons. Under Rigby, the Trojans have advance to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two seasons after winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament title.
