Trojans Close Regular Season, Honor Seniors

TROY, Alabama – The 2017 soccer regular season comes to a close on Sunday at Troy hosts Georgia Southern at the Troy Soccer Complex at 1 p.m. A pregame ceremony is set to honor seniors Mikki Lewis and Haley Roberson.

The Trojans enter the contest eyeing the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament, but based on the weekend's results could finish as high as No. 3 or as low as No. 6.

Led by sophomore Julia Winter, Troy (7-9-2, 5-4 Sun Belt) has won three of its last four matches included a 3-2 overtime thriller at UL Lafayette last week. Winter has scored four goals over the last five games tossing in a pair of assists as well.

As a team, the Trojans pace the Sun Belt with seven shutouts and are third with 29 goals. Under first year head coach Ged O'Connor, Troy has matched its win total and eclipsed its offensive output from last season, all ahead of 2016's pace.

ABOUT THE SENIORS
HALEY ROBERSON – A native of Burke, Virginia, Roberson has played in every game of her Troy career. She has accumulated 11 assists as an outside back and helped lead the Trojan defense to 24 shutouts over the last three years. She is a two-time All-Sun Belt Second Team selection and a 2017 Preseason All-Sun Belt pick. She graduated this past December with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Public Relations and is finishing her Master's in Strategic Communication.

MIKKI LEWIS – A native of St. Johns, Florida, Lewis will finish her career as the most successful goalkeeper in Troy soccer history. She is the school's all-time record holder with 38 wins, 30 shutouts and 1.02 career goals against average. She also holds Troy single-season records in wins, shutouts, goals against average, and minutes played by a goalkeeper. Lewis is a four-year starter, a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection, a four-time Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week honoree, and was named 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District. She is set to graduate in December with a degree in psychology.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
The Eagles (7-7-2, 4-4-1) currently sit in sixth with 13 points on the season. Due to holding the tiebreaker over Arkansas State the Eagles can move as high as third to finish the season. The Eagles are coming off of a victory on senior day where they defeated ULM 2-0 to clinch a spot in the tournament.
Frida Brattum continues to lead the Eagles with five goals and two assists on the year. Lauren Karinshak posted her fifth clean-sheet of the year and has improved her record to 7-6-1 on the season. Her latest shutout helped the Eagles clinch a spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament for the first time since 2015.
