Troy Travels to Blacksburg for First Match of 2017 Season

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis team travels to Blacksburg, Va., to compete in their first match of the 2017 season. The Trojans will take on Virginia Tech on Saturday and ETSU on Sunday. Saturday's meet will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT and Sunday's meet will begin at 9 a.m. CT at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Virginia Tech completed the 2016 season with a 14-11 record and went 7-7 in the ACC. The Hokies finished the year ranking 38th in the final ITA ranking.
Last year, ETSU finished the season 20-3, the fewest losses in program history. They defeated Samford 4-0 to claim their first ever Southern Conference Championship. The Bucs advanced to the NCAA Tournament, but lost in the opening round.
NOTEWORTHY
This season, Troy returns all seven players. Senior Alicia Rodriguez leads the squad while a strong group of four juniors and two sophomores adds depth to the team.
Last season, the Trojans posted a 12-9 record. Nancy Karaky led the team with 20 total wins and dual match record of 15-4. In doubles play, Karaky and Sanae Ohta led the team, with a 16-9 record, while Ohta finished the season at 19-10 overall.
The team competed in five tournaments during the fall season including the Georgia Southern Invitational where Hannah Seizer took third, the Baylor Under Armour Invitational, the ITA tournament and Roberta Alison Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and a tournament hosted by North Florida.
