Troy Men's Tennis Kicks Off Season At Rice Invitational

HOUSTON, Texas – The Troy men's tennis team will take to the courts once again to kick off the 2016-17 season at the Rice Invitational.

The tournament will start Friday at 9 a.m. with one round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles. Saturday will start at 10 a.m. and will have one round of doubles and singles and Sunday will be the same except with a 9 a.m. start.

Taking the court for Troy will be Hassan Ndayishimiye, Pablo Moreno and Jaiqi Duan in the A draw, Andy Lau, Mustapha Belcora and Gabriel Niculescu in the B draw and Filip Mansson, Andre Baldo and Austin Racine in the C draw for singles play.
Â
The pairings for doubles will be Lau and Moreno, Niculescu and Duan and Manson and Racine. Teams competing in the Invitational include Rice, Army, UTSA, UIW, Tulane, UTA and Prairie View A&M.

The format is pro set to eight in all doubles matches and two out of three sets in all main draw singles. All singles back draw matches will be played with a 10-point tiebreaker for the third set. All singles and doubles will be no-ad scoring.

• This will be the first competition for the Trojans in the 2016-17 season.

• Troy returns 61 singles victories from last season in the form of seven returning starters to the roster, led by junior Andy Lau and senior Pablo Moreno

• Troy will see the debut of freshman Jaiqi Duan on Friday who will go up against Rice sophomore Oscar Janglin.
