Women’s Golf Opens Strong at Mason Rudolph

FRANKLIN, Tennessee – Troy sank 14 birdies as a team and shot a 3-over 291 in Friday's opening round of the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The Trojans are tied for fifth in a field that features nine teams ranked in the top 50 nationally.
Becca Horner carded a team-best four birdies en route to shooting a 1-under 71 to lead the Trojans in the opening round. Horner made the turn at even par and sank two birdies around a bogey on the back nine to close the day in a tie for eighth place individually.
Troy is just three shots back of No. 44 SMU for third place and just a stroke behind Auburn for fourth, while No. 3. Alabama and No. 8 Northwestern are tied for the team lead at 4-under par. The Trojans will carry a lead over No. 14 Virginia, No. 29 Houston, No. 40 Vanderbilt, No. 42 Michigan State, No. 47 Tulane and No. 50 Middle Tennessee into Saturday's second round.
Fátima Fernández Cano traded a pair of birdies for a pair of bogeys and finished her opening round at even par and tied for 18th place overall, while Bianca Lohbauer shot 1-over with three birdies on her card – good for a tie for 24th.
Gabi Oubre' had an up-and-down day for the Trojans as she finished her round with three birdies, but five over-par holes set her final tally at 3-over and a tie for 38th place. Lindsey Harrison shot 10-over with a pair of birdies to round out the field for the Trojans.
Alabama's Cheyenne Knight and Auburn's Elena Hualde are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 4-under.
Troy, Auburn and Central Florida will be paired together for Saturday's second round and the grouping will go off the front nine beginning at 9:20 a.m.
