Troy Soccer Takes on Samford on Sunday

TROY, Alabama – Following a 2-0 victory over Gardner-Webb in the team's season opener on Friday, the Troy soccer team will make the short trek north to Birmingham to visit Samford on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

The Trojans (1-0) got goals from Brooke McKee and Abby Reynolds in their win. Mikki Lewis picked up the win in goal and recorded three saves in the match.

Samford (0-0-1) and South Alabama combined for 30 shots in a 0-0 draw on Friday.

NOTEWORTHY
• Samford holds an 8-1 advantage in the all-time series, though the schools have not played since 2004.

• Mikki Lewis recorded her 21st career shutout on Friday; she is one shy of tying the Troy career record set by Ashley Branham (2008-11).

• The Trojans look to start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2012.

• Troy started three freshmen on Friday (Klara Andrup, Maddie Brune and Nicole Strahl). In total, 12 players made their debuts for Troy including transfers Alex Huynh and Emily Stearns, who both started the game.
