Hakim Montgomery to Compete for United States in the World Junior Championships

BYDGOSZCZ, Poland – Troy track and field athlete Hakim Montgomery is representing the United States at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, which began on July 19 ends on July 24.

Montgomery will compete for the United States in two events, the 100-meter sprints and the 4x100 relay. The Temple, Ga., native finished third in the 100-meter sprints at the Junior Championships in Clovis, Calif., which qualified him for the 4x100 and due to an injury he qualified for the 100-meter race.

The 100-meter heats began at 5:05 a.m. CT on Tuesday morning and Montgomery finished third in his heat with a 10.58 time, which qualified him for the semifinal round. The semifinal will take place on Wednesday at 12:20 p.m. CT.

The top three finishers in the each heat qualified along with the six next best times of the 100-meters. Montgomery can qualify for the finals if he finishes in the top two of his heat or is one of the top two next fastest times. The final round will take place on Wednesday at 2:35 p.m. CT.

Montgomery will also represent the United States in the 4x100 meter relays. The heats will take place on Friday at 11:30 a.m. CT with the finals starting at 12:35 p.m. CT.
