Troy Baseball Falls to ULM in Game Two
5/7/2016 6:19:00 PM | Baseball
TROY, Alabama – The Troy baseball team fell to ULM 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at Riddle-Pace Field.
"The difference today was plain and simple," head coach Mark Smartt said. "Two things; their last four runs came with two outs in the inning and they got hits when they had to and we didn't. They just played better than we did."
Troy (27-20, 12-11) scored its first run early in the first inning when Joey Denison singled to left field and scored Brandon Lockridge from second that gave Troy a 1-0 lead. Denison finished the game 2-for-4 with one RBI.
ULM (18-30, 8-15) took a 3-1 lead with one run in the second inning and two in the fourth. A solo home run by Jacob Stockton in the second inning tied the game at one. Nathan Pugh scored on a ground ball out to first base in the fourth inning. The next Warhawk batter doubled down the third base line and scored one to give ULM a 3-1 lead.
The Trojans battled back and cut the lead to one run in the fifth as Justin Friend hit a one-run single through the left side. That's all the runs could push across and ULM scored two more in the seventh and another in the ninth to seal the game 6-2.
Down three runs, Troy had its best chance in the seventh inning when back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases with two outs. However, a pop out to the shortstop in shallow center field ended the scoring threat and left the bases full. Troy left 10 men on base throughout the game.
Brayden Bouchey (5-2) picked up the win for ULM and allowed two runs on five hits. He struck out one, walked three and hit two batters.
Lucas Brown (6-4) suffered the loss for Troy. He pitched seven innings and struck out five, but allowed five runs on nine hits. Robert Harris pitched the final two innings and gave up one run on three hits and struck out two.
Lockridge failed to pick up a hit as his 16 game hitting streak came to an end. It was the longest hit streak for any Trojan this season. However, he was hit by two pitches, drew a walk and scored both the Trojans runs.
The Trojans look to bounce back and win the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. Houston Mabray will toe the rubber for Troy in that game.
All youth wearing a Rec League uniform get in FREE for Sunday's game and the first 75 mothers in attendance will receive FREE flowers.
