Troy Baseball Travels To Alabama State for Mid-Week Contest

TROY, Alabama – The Troy baseball team will travel to Montgomery, Ala., for a Wednesday night game against Alabama State at 6 p.m.

The game will be aired live on 94.7 WTBF FM and will be available all weekend at TroyTrojans.com.

After an 11-6 record during the month of April, the Trojans (25-19) look to continue their success for the month of May.
Â
TJ Binder and Joey Denison led the Trojans offensively for the month of April. Binder had the best average with a .403 batting average. He also had five doubles, three home runs, one triple and 12 RBIs. Denison had five long balls, six doubles and one triple and 15 RBIs with a .371 batting average.

Troy has various leaders throughout the lineup. Matt Sanders has a team-high .351 batting average, while Joey Denison leads the team with five home runs and 12 doubles.

A pair of freshmen has contributed to this feat in Brandon Lockridge and Chase Smartt. Lockridge has a team-best three triples and Smartt 25 RBIs, tops on the team.

Cory Gill will get the start on the mound for the Trojans. He has an even 3.00 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched. Opponents are only batting .198 against Gill. He threw six innings of shutout baseball against Alabama State the last time these two teams met and only allowed one hit and struck out three.

Alabama State (31-14) will play Florida A&M on Tuesday night before hosting the Trojans. The team is led by Eriq White who has a .346 batting average and 35 RBIs. Carlos Ocasio is the power for the Hornets and had 12 home runs and 56 RBIs, both best on the team.

The Hornets will send Brandon Caples to the mound on Wednesday. He has a 2-0 record and a 3.81 ERA in 10 appearances. The junior has 19 strikeouts in 28.1 innings pitched.

Troy blanked the Hornets 8-0 in March, which was the last time these two teams met. The Trojans lead the all-time series 19-4 and is 7-3 when facing Alabama State in Montgomery.
