TROY, Alabama – The Troy baseball team travels to Atlanta, Ga., for a three-game series against Georgia State beginning Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
Saturday's game is slated for a 1 p.m. CT start, while Sunday's series finale will begin at noon CT. All three games will be aired live on 94.7 WTBF FM and will be available all weekend at TroyTrojans.com.
Troy (27-23, 12-12 Sun Belt) looks to break a four-game losing streak, after it dropped the last two games in the ULM series, fell to Auburn on Tuesday night and came up short at home against No. 3 Mississippi State.
The weekend rotation gives the Trojans a great chance, as Grant Bennett will start on Friday; Lucas Brown with throw on Saturday and Houston Mabray will toe the rubber in Sunday's game.
Troy enters with the third best ERA in the Sun Belt with a 3.73 team ERA. Grant Bennett leads the way with a 1.92 ERA, which is tops in the Sun Belt and 33rd best in the nation. He enters with an 8-2 record and his eight wins ranks him 21st in the country, tied for first in the Sun Belt.
Brown enters with a 3.01 ERA and a 6-4 record. His six wins have him tied for fifth place in the Sun Belt. He has 54 strikeouts and 80.2 innings pitched, both second best on the team.
Mabray posts a 3-3 record with a 3.72 ERA. He has pitched 46 innings and has struck out 24, but has only allowed 12 walks. Opponents are batting .257 when facing Mabray.
Offensively, the Trojans have five players with 10 RBIs or more in Sun Belt games. Joey Denison leads the team with 12 doubles and eight of them coming against Sun Belt teams. Overall Denison is batting .309 with five home runs and is tied with Chase Smartt for tops on the team with 27 RBIs.
Georgia State (23-26, 9-15 Sun Belt) is currently eighth in the Sun Belt standings and dropped a series last weekend at Texas State. Two players lead the Panthers offensively in Jarrett Hood and Joey Roach. Hood leads the team in batting average (.352) and in doubles with 19. His 19 doubles have him pegged for 15th in the country in that category. Roach leads the team in home runs and RBIs. He has hit 11 home runs this season and has tallied 45 RBIs.
This series will mark the 38th, 39th and 40th overall meeting between the schools. Troy holds a 28-9 lead in the series and is 9-6 when facing Georgia State in Atlanta. The Trojans swept the Panthers at Riddle-Pace Field last season.
