Troy Soccer Hosts Alabama in Spring Match on Friday
4/7/2016 1:06:00 PM | Soccer
TROY, Alabama – The Troy soccer team will host SEC opponent Alabama on Friday at the Troy Soccer Complex at 7:30 p.m.
Â
"I think this will be a good opportunity for our group," Jason Hamilton said. "Alabama is very well coached and I am sure have progressed in the past year since head coach Wes Hart arrived. Both teams have had success so far this spring and will be looking to build on that. We will both be looking to keep the ball so I think it should be good soccer to watch for those in attendance."
Â
Troy continues its spring schedule, which has seen the Trojans victorious in all three matches played. Troy has only allowed one goal so far and has outscored its opponents 7-1 in the spring.
Â
The 2015 Troy team finished second in the Sun Belt and finished with a 14-4-2 overall record and a 6-2-1 conference record. Last years squad set 14 individual career-records, two single-season records and seven team records including season attendance, fewest losses and highest winning percentage.
Â
Troy traveled to Tuscaloosa last year and faced Alabama, but suffered a close 1-0 loss to the Crimson Tide. Mikki Lewis had three saves in the match but Alabama scored the go-ahead goal in the 77th minute.
Â
The 2016 fall season is highlighted by two teams that made the NCAA Tournament in 2015, in Ole Miss and Florida State. Ole Miss made it to the third round before falling Texas A&M and Florida State made it to the quarterfinals and was one of four No. 1 seeds.
Â
The spring schedule has three more matches following the meet with Alabama. Troy will close out the spring schedule at the Troy Soccer Complex with a 12Â p.m. match with West Florida. The spring will end with two games in Macon, Ga., on April 16 against Mercer and Kennesaw State.
