Track and Field Split Between Bill Carson Invitational and Tiger Classic This Weekend

TROY, Alabama – The Troy track and field team will travel to two destinations for meets on Friday and Saturday. Most of the team will travel to the Bill Carson Invitational hosted by East Carolina while a select few will compete at the Tiger Classic hosted by Auburn.

The Bill Carson Invitational at East Carolina is a scored meet and will feature top programs in East Carolina, The Citadel, Coastal Carolina, High Point and UNC Charlotte.

"We are excited to be a part of two high quality meets this weekend," Marc Davis said. "The bulk of the team is heading to East Carolina, and we are in for some very tough competition. We wanted to break away from the invitational format and put the kids in a situation where they had to score points for their team. The goal is to have people step up, get out of their comfort zones, and take risks to score points for the team."

The Tiger Classic will feature 17 athletes from Troy and 19 other colleges.

"The Auburn meet is another tough meet," Davis said. "Those competitors are vying for spots on our conference championship team roster. The competition will be perfect for them to get some good marks recorded."

The men's and women's throws will be the first event tabbed at the Bill Carson Invitational and will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday. All the field events will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday and the track events will begin at 11:30 a.m. and last until 2 p.m.

The Tiger Classic will feature Trojans in the men's and women's 5K competition on Friday, which is at 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.

Troy will also have athletes compete in the discus and shot put on the men's side, while women's pole vault will feature the women's side. Both men and women will have athletes compete in various track events, which begin at 12:20 p.m. on Saturday.
