Marc Davis enters his 12th season as the Director of Track and Field / Cross Country in 2025-26. Davis will also serve as the ESTFCCCA President of Division I Track and Field in the 2024-25 season.
Davis’ 11th season with the Trojans saw outstanding individual performances across the board with 11 All-Sun Belt honorees, including a pair on the first team in Kady Schwietz (indoor – pentathlon) and Tydreke Thomas (outdoor – 100m). He also sent three athletes, Thomas, Shanyah Washington and Altwayne Bedward, to the NCAA East Region First Round, where they competed in Jacksonville, Fla. Through the indoor and outdoor season, Davis coached 38 gold medal finishes on the individual side with nine on the relay side for 47 total. Troy hosted the Doc Anderson Invitational for the second straight season, where the program dominated with 24 first-place finishes and 50 on the podium. Off the track, he also mentored Abby Grosinske to be the Troy recipient of the Sun Belt Conference Postgraduate Award.
2024 saw Davis lead the Trojan roster to four top-three finishes at the outdoor Sun Belt Conference Championship. He also prepared five NCAA East Preliminary qualifiers: Javon Osbourne, Altwayne Bedward, Cole Stewart, Biniosa Ezukuse, and Joy Edward. Additionally, he qualified one athlete for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials in Cole Stewart. Davis led the Trojans to 49 top-three finishes, including 17 first-place, 18 second-place, and 14 third-place. This season, Davis also hosted the Doc Anderson Invitational, the first home track meet at Troy since 2019.
In 2023, Davis coached the Trojan roster to four top-three finishes at the outdoor Sun Belt Conference Championship. He also coached four NCAA East Preliminary Qualifiers in Javon Osbourne, Biniosa Ezukuse, Cole Stewart and Jaggerd Moore, while breaking numerous school records for indoor and outdoor. Â
Meanwhile, in 2022, the Trojans seized five top-three finishes at the Outdoor Sun Belt Championships (two for women, three for men), with Edita Sklenska earning a gold medal in the 800m event. He also sent five (Stewart, Osbourne, Sklenska, Marek Taskar, Julian Martin-Rogers) to Bloomington, Ind., for the NCAA East Preliminaries. The 2022 season saw 65 new school records that had been set, with eight athletes setting brand-new school records.Â

2021 saw Davis coach NCAA All-American Gemma Finch, who claimed first place in the 800m at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships, NCAA First Round and final round qualifier. Sklenska followed Finch by winning the 800m for the SBC Indoor Championships. Davis saw the team’s hard work pay off with back-to-back DMR champions (Indoor), a first-place finish for the men’s and women’s high jump event (Outdoor) en route to sending seven Trojans (Finch, Sklenska, Stewart, Titus Sizemore, Mattew Likely, Michael Alvernaz, Maja Kuessner) to Jacksonville, Fla. for the preliminary round.Â

In 2020, Davis led the he Trojans finished to a second-place finish and a program-record 89 total points at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships. The second place finish is the Trojans’ best finish in program history, while the 89 total team points are also a new school record, surpassing 2019’s 81-point output.

Additionally, Troy athletes have recorded new school records in multiple events –  [women’s indoor] 600m, 800m, mile, 3000m, 400m, 4x400 relay, pentathlon, pole vault, distance medley relay, shot put [women’s outdoor] 3000m steeplechase, 800m, discus, pole vault, 4x200 relay, sprint medley relay [men’s indoor] 600m, 800m, 55m hurdles, 60m, mile, 1000m, 5000m, 400m, 4x400 relay, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, shot put, weight throw [men’s outdoor] 100m, discus and shot put.

In the 2018 indoor season, the Davis-led squad tied a school record for the highest finish at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships, coming in fifth. Indiya Summerville led the charge for the Trojans as she won the Sun Belt shot put title. In the spring of 2017, senior thrower Zach Douglas was named the Sun Belt Field Athlete of the Year for his success in the shot put and discus events.

Troy had seven athletes compete at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor East Preliminaries after winning eight medals at the Sun Belt Championships. This came one year after Troy sent five athletes to the 2016 NCAA East Preliminaries.

In his first season at the helm, Cox, then a sophomore, earned Second Team All-America honors at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championship, after placing 11th in the discus throw with a 52.70-meter toss in her third and final attempt. Â

Troy athletes have also succeeded at the international level during Davis’ tenure as Hakim Montgomery competed at the USA Indoor Championships in the spring of 2017 and won gold for Team USA in the 4x100-meter relay at the Junior World Championships in the summer of 2016.

Davis comes to Troy after 15 seasons with the Yale University track & field program, where he served as the men’s head coach since 2011. During his time at the helm of the Bulldogs’ program, Davis coached Ivy League champions in the 60m, 100m, 200m, 4x100m and 4x400m events. He also coached school record holders in the women’s 60m, 100m, indoor and outdoor 200m, 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m, men’s 60m, 100m, indoor and outdoor 200m and 400m.

Davis began his coaching career in the fall of 1995 at his alma mater, Lafayette College, where he was a volunteer assistant coaching the sprints and hurdles. Davis left Lafayette to become a graduate assistant at Millersville in January 1997. He helped guide numerous Millersville student-athletes to the NCAA Division II National Championships and to All-East performances as the sprints, hurdles and jumps coach.
From Millersville, Davis joined the staff at Yale before the 2000-01 season to coach the sprints. Under the guidance of Davis, Yale sprinters saw a great deal of success and have virtually rewritten the school’s track and field record books.

He competed as an undergraduate at Lafayette under the tutelage of current Yale coach David Shoehalter. He was a two-time Patriot League champion in the sprints and was an All-East performer in the 200m (indoors).

Davis, a Kennett Square, PA, native, graduated from Lafayette in 1995 with a degree in anthropology and sociology. Davis currently serves on the Board of Directors for the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.Â
