Troy Hosts Georgia Southern for Final Series at Home

TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team welcomes Georgia Southern this weekend to compete in the final home series in a conference matchup at the Troy Softball Complex. The doubleheader on Saturday is slated to begin at 1 p.m. and the series finale is set to begin at 12 p.m. on Sunday. Senior Day will be held prior to the first pitch on Sunday.

Troy (26-18, 7-8 Sun Belt) enters the weekend coming off a heartbreaking, 2-1, loss to Georgia Tech at Shirley Clements Mewborn Field on Wednesday.

Kate Benton owns a .415 batting average and leads the club with 59 hits, 43 runs and 33 stolen bases, which is second in the Sun Belt. Hannah Day leads the conference with 56 RBIs and is second in the Sun Belt with 15 home runs. Her .340 batting average, 48 hits and eight doubles are second highest on the team.

Claire Graves and Ashley Rainey lead the Troy pitching staff. Graves (5-4) has recorded an ERA of 3.77 and has pitched four complete games. She has racked up 45 strikeouts in 87.1 innings of work. Rainey (14-12) posts a 3.96 ERA in 115 innings. She has 47 strikeouts on the season and has only walked 29 batters.

Georgia Southern (26-19, 10-5 Sun Belt) enters the matchup after a huge, 6-4, win over South Carolina in Columbia on Tuesday. The Eagles sit in third place in the Sun Belt standings, three games ahead of Troy and Georgia State who are tied for fourth.

Lydia Witkowski and Morgan Robinson lead the way offensively for the Eagles. Witkowski has a .338 batting average on the season and has crossed the plate 35 times. Robinson brings the power for the Eagles with 45 RBIs, eight home runs and eight doubles.

Dixie Raley (19-9) leads the Eagles' pitching staff with a 3.40 ERA. She has recorded 153 strikeouts and given up 134 hits in 158.2 innings of work.

Troy leads the all-time series over Georgia Southern 17-8. The Trojans swept the Eagles last season at Eagle Field at GS Softball Complex in Statesboro, Ga.
