Troy Women Sign Birmingham Product Amber Rivers

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball program and head coach Chanda Rigby announced the signing of Amber Rivers on Thursday. Rivers becomes the fifth member of Troy's incoming class, with all five set to come to Troy as true freshmen.
Rivers, a 6-foot-2 forward, comes to Troy from Center Point High School in the Birmingham metro area. Rivers was an ASWA Class 6A All-State Third Team selection last season as a senior and was also a second team AL.com Birmingham All-Metro Team selection.
"Amber Rivers fills a void that we needed to fill in our program," Rigby said. "We have needed a high-energy, athletic post player with a natural knack and inclination to rebound for some time now. Amber fits that bill. She also scores well around the basket and is a winner. We are thrilled to welcome Amber into our Trojan family."
As a senior, she averaged 15.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per game while collecting 65 blocks. Rivers led Center Point to an 18-12 record and a spot in the AHSAA Class 6A Sub-Regional round where the Eagles fell to Huffman, an eventual Final Four team.
As a junior, Rivers scored 11.8 points per game and also grabbed a team-best 8.5 rebounds per game. She added 74 blocks while leading Center Point to the first of their back-to-back sub-regional appearances. During that junior season, Rivers was also an ASWA Class 6A All-State Third Team selection.
Rivers has twice been selected to the all-area team, three-times to the all-county team and been named to several all-tournament teams during her career at Center Point.
She becomes the second post player in Troy's signing class, joining Jessie Day who signed in November. The class features two guards that signed in November, Makayla Robinson and Harriet Winchester, and one guard that signed earlier this week, Lacy Stafford.
