Troy Men’s Tennis Closes Regular Season

TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's tennis team closed its regular season on Sunday with three matches at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. The Trojans dropped a pair of Sun Belt matches, 4-3 to South Alabama at 4-1 to No. 51 Georgia State. Troy's reserves did, however, grab a 5-0 win over Florida A&M.
Troy (15-13, 1-3) now turns its attention to the defending its Sun Belt title when the conference tournament begins on Thursday, April 21.
The day's opening match against South Alabama (13-11, 1-1) was an absolute thriller, coming down to a third-set tiebreaker. Andy Lau won in three sets at No. 4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, to tie the match at 3-3, setting up a deciding match at No. 3. However, Giovani Samaha, one of two seniors, fell in an incredibly tight match, 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (5).
At the same time, Troy was getting a strong effort from its reserves as they blanked Florida A&M, 5-0. Filip Mansson, Andre Baldo, Calum McKinaly and Tomas Fernandez all got singles wins for Troy.
Baldo went perfect on the day as he also won doubles in all three contests. His doubles win with Lau against Georgia State (16-4, 3-0) clinched the opening point for Troy, but the Panthers dominated in singles play to grab the win.
