Troy Baseball Stoked for 80’s Weekend, Hosts New Orleans

TROY, Alabama – The Troy baseball team is set for a three-game non-conference series against New Orleans at Riddle-Pace Field with several 80's Weekend promotions all weekend long, including $1 admission and 80s walk up music with a 1986 team reunion and a commemorative poster for Saturday's contest.
The three-game set will begin on Friday night at 6 p.m., while Saturday's game will be at 3 p.m. and Sunday's game is slated to start at 1 p.m. All three games can be heard live on WTBF 94.7 FM or at TroyTrojans.com for free. Each game will be streamed live and can be seen at TroyTrojans.com.
Troy (14-12) won its last game on Tuesday at Riddle-Pace Field against Alabama State, 8-0. The Trojans have scored at least eight runs in its last five-of-six games played for the first time since 2013.
Over the last six games the Trojans have blasted 14 doubles and knocked in 40 RBIs. Trevor Davis has led the way with a .417 average, 10 hits, one double and three RBIs. Joey Denison has three doubles in that stretch and has driven in six runs.
Matt Sanders, Davis and TJ Binder have batting averages over .300. Sanders leads the three players with a .351 average. Davis has a .305 batting average with four doubles and a team-high 15 RBIs. Binder is hitting .302 with three doubles and five RBIs.
The Troy pitching staff has been great all year and has the 27th best ERA in the nation, which is also tops in the Sun Belt. Grant Bennett has a team-best 1.26 ERA, which is the 30th best individual ERA in the country. He's tied for second best in the Sun Belt and has the third most innings pitched in the league.
Bennett will get the start on Friday night, while Houston Mabray will make his first career weekend start for the Trojans on Saturday. His last and only other start came on March 9 as he pitched six innings, didn't allow a walk and picked up a win against Jacksonville State. The Troy, Ala., native comes in with a 2-0 record and eight strikeouts in 14.2 innings of work. Lucas Brown will shift from his normal Saturday start to a Sunday start. Brown has a 3-3 record with 24 strikeouts and 11 walks.
New Orleans (17-8) has been one of the biggest surprise teams in the country this year and has wins over No. 27 Tulane and South Alabama with a three-game sweep against Pittsburgh. The Privateers began the year winning 13 of their first 15 games, but have dropped six of their last 10.
Dakota Dean leads the Privateers offensively. The junior has a .380 batting average, four home runs, 28 RBIs and five stolen bases – all team-highs.
The Trojans hold a 17-7 all-time series lead over New Orleans, with a 9-4 record of games played at Riddle-Pace Field. The last time the two teams met was at Riddle-Pace Field in 2014 when the Trojans took two of three from the Privateers.
