Troy Baseball Resumes Sun Belt Play, Travels to Georgia Southern

TROY, Alabama – The Troy baseball team will resume play, traveling to J.I. Clements Stadium for a three-game Sun Belt series with Georgia Southern beginning Friday at 6 p.m. CT.

Saturday's game is also slated for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch, while Sunday's game is set to begin at noon. Friday's game can be heard live at WTBF 970AM, while Saturday's and Sunday's game will be aired live on 94.7 WTBF FM. Free audio broadcasts will be available all weekend at TroyTrojans.com

Troy (10-8, 1-2 Sun Belt) resumes play after not having a mid-week game and dropping the opening Sun Belt series to No. 16 UL Lafayette last weekend. The Trojans won the second game of the series,4-1, behind a complete game performance from Lucas Brown.

Brown (3-1) will toe the rubber for the Trojans on Saturday, while Grant Bennett (2-0) and Evan Hebert (1-2) will get the start Friday and Sunday, respectively. Bennett leads the team with 26 strikeouts, while Brown has a team-best 1.19 ERA and a team-high 30.1 innings pitched.

The Trojans had a combined 44 hits in the last five games last week. Peyton Fuller and Brandon Lockridge led the way with eight hits each. Lockridge scored six runs, while Fuller drove in seven in the five games. Both players enter the series with active hitting streaks, Peyton has had a hit in the last five games and Lockridge has had a hit in the last eight.

Georgia Southern (12-5, 3-0 Sun Belt) is fresh off an 11-10 win over Mercer on Tuesday night and swept Appalachian State to open Sun Belt play the previous weekend. Logan Baldwin is the offensive threat for the Eagles, and leads the team in batting average (.304), doubles (5) and RBIs (13).

The Eagles will throw Evan Challenger (3-1) on Friday, Chase Cohen (1-1) on Saturday and Brain Eichhorn (2-1) on Sunday. Together, they have seven wins and have struck out 57 batters this season.

Troy leads the all-time series with Georgia Southern 7-1. It will be the first time the two teams will meet in Statesboro, Ga. Troy won the series last year when they played at Riddle-Pace Field.
