Troy Hosts Georgia State to Open Conference Play

TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team opens Sun Belt Conference play by hosting a three-game series against Georgia State at the Troy Softball Complex this weekend. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and the series finale scheduled for Sunday at 12 p.m.

Troy (16-5) is off to its best start since 2012 and the Trojans are coming off a big 4-2 victory at UAB on Tuesday night.

Kate Benton has a .470 batting average, 31 hits and 23 runs, which leads the Trojans in all three categories. She is second in the Sun Belt in stolen bases with 18 on 21 attempts. Hannah Day leads the Trojans and ranks 14th nationally with seven home runs, while leading Troy with 25 RBIs.

Ashley Rainey leads the Trojans' pitching staff with 24 strikeouts this season and with two complete games. She has allowed 31 runs and 63 hits in 62.2 innings of work.

Georgia State (11-11) comes into the contest having lost four of its last five games, with two of the losses coming at No. 3 Auburn. Ivie Drake leads the Panthers offensively as she enters the weekend batting .393 with six home runs, six doubles and 15 RBIs.

The Panther pitching staff is led by Katie Worley, who has pitched 47 innings and has a 2.68 ERA.
