Women’s Golf Opens Spring Slate at the Lady Bulldog Individual
2/5/2016 2:22:00 PM | Golf (W)
TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's golf team opens its spring schedule on Saturday, as four Trojans will compete in the Lady Bulldog Individual Tournament at the University of Georgia Golf Course. Tee times begin at 7:45 a.m. (CST) and participants will play 36 holes in the one-day event.
Representing Troy at the tournament will be senior Kalyn Hudson, junior Becca Horner and freshmen Bianca Lohbauer and Bria Jansen. The field will include 42 golfers from eight schools – Troy, Georgia, Auburn, Dalton State, Ole Miss, UNC Greensboro, Samford and Tennessee.
"As a coach, you don't ever feel that you are fully ready to play, but I really like our progress, and I like where we are heading," Troy head coach Bart Barnes said. "We ended the fall schedule a little earlier than normal because I wanted to extend our offseason and get some quality practice reps in at our facility.
"Our facility has really helped us handle some of the winter weather, as we were able to get in a lot of practice when normally we would have had to take a day off due to rain or the cold," Barnes said. "We have a very competitive and challenging spring schedule ahead of us – one that will give us an opportunity to test ourselves against some of the top teams in the country."
Troy ended its fall run with a pair of successful finishes, as the Trojans won the Chris Banister Golf Classic and finished second at the Blue Raider Invitational.
The Trojans top two finishers from the fall, Fátima Fernandez Cano (72.75) and Gabi Oubre (76.13), will not compete at the Lady Bulldog Individual Tournament, as Barnes will look to get the rest of his lineup a head start on the remainder of the spring schedule.
Lohbauer and Horner played in all three of Troy's tournaments in the fall and finished with stroke averages of 78.38 and 78.63, respectively. Lohbauer tied for 18th at the Blue Raider Invitational to close out the fall, while Horner tied for 12th in Troy's victory at the Chris Banister Golf Classic.
Hudson played in Troy's final two tournaments of the fall and posted an 80.67 stroke average over her six rounds, while Jansen competed at the Chris Banister Golf Classic and posted an 83.67 average over her three rounds.
The Trojans will be right back in action next weekend as the first team-event of the spring takes place in Tallahassee, Fla., at the FSU Matchup. The three-day event opens on Friday, Feb. 12 with 18 holes.
