Men's Hoops Opens Second Half of Sun Belt Schedule at Little Rock

TROY, Alabama – Following a much-needed break, the Troy men's basketball team opens the second half of its Sun Belt schedule Thursday night at Little Rock. The battle of the Trojans is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. in the Jack Stephens Center.

Troy (6-15, 1-9 Sun Belt) took Saturday off after playing home games against South Alabama and Appalachian State during the week. The Trojans enter the second half of the Sun Belt schedule trying to shake off the rust off a four-game losing skid.

Wesley Person dropped 22 points on App State last Thursday and leads Troy with 16.7 points on the season, while John Walton III scored 18 points and pulled down 11 boards against the Mountaineers for his third double-double of the season.

Person is seventh among active players in the NCAA with 2.78 3-point field goals per game over his career, while Walton has posted a double-double in two of Troy's last five games and is averaging 11.9 points and 7.0 rebounds over the past eight games.

Jordon Varnado and Jeremy Hollimon are also in double figures on the year for Troy scoring at rates of 15.1 and 12.0 per game, respectively. Varnado ranks sixth in the Sun Belt with 7.6 rebounds per game, while Hollimon is ninth in steals per game (1.3).

Little Rock (19-2, 9-1) enters the contest leading the country allowing just 58.3 points per game. In the first meeting, Little Rock escaped with a 67-61 victory after outscoring Troy by 11 in the second half.

Varnado scored 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while Kelton Ford added 10 points and Person scored nine in the first meeting. Marcus Johnson, Jr., scored a game-high 22 points and Jalen Jackson added 18 points for Little Rock.

Johnson leads Little Rock averaging 13.0 points per game, while Josh Hagins is close behind scoring at a 12.5 per-game clip while dishing out a team-high 4.8 assists. Little Rock has the second-best winning percentage in the country and leads the Sun Belt in nine statistical categories.
