Troy Baseball Hosts Alabama on Tuesday, Travels to UAB on Wednesday

TROY, Alabama – The Troy baseball team looks to host SEC foe Alabama on Tuesday at Riddle-Pace Field before traveling to Birmingham, Ala., for a Wednesday game against UAB at Regions Park. First pitch for the Alabama game is set for 6 p.m., while the UAB game will begin at 4 p.m.

Troy (7-1) is coming off a series win on the road at Southeastern Louisiana and is off to its best start since 2008.

Matt Sanders leads the team offensively with a team-best .364 batting average, while Reid Long has driven in seven runs, also a team-high.

A trio of Trojans each has a home run on the season. Brandon Lockridge and Long hit one each in the opening series against Northern Kentucky. Justin Friend hit his first home run as a Trojan on Saturday's game at Southeastern Louisiana.

Cory Gill (1-0) will get the start for the Trojans against the Crimson Tide. He earned the start against Northern Kentucky in the final game of the series. The Cottonwood, Ala., native pitched five innings, only allowed one run on three hits, struck out eight and earned the win.

Alabama (6-1) is coming off a series sweep over North Dakota. The Crimson Tide is lead by Chandler Taylor, who is batting .423 with one triple, one home run and six RBIs. Taylor also has a .615 slugging percentage with a .500 on-base percentage.

Jon Keller (1-0) will get his first start of the season on the mound for Alabama. He has made two relief appearances and pitched 2.2 innings with one walk and one strikeout. His lone win came against Maryland on opening night.

This will be the first meeting between Troy and Alabama since 2014, where Troy lost 10-5 in Pensacola. The last time the Crimson Tide came to Riddle-Pace Field was in 2012, they didn't score a run and the Trojans won in a 9-0 shutout.

UAB (3-4) took two out of three from Ohio over the weekend and will travel to Samford on Tuesday night. Griffin Gum leads the Blazers with a .423 batting average, three doubles and six RBIs.

The Trojans hosted the Blazers last Wednesday and won 2-1. Troy has a chance to tie up the all-time series at 25 between the two teams on Wednesday night at Regions Park.
