Troy Softball Hosts Trojan Warrior Tournament

TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team is back in action this weekend as it hosts the Trojan Warrior Tournament at the Troy Softball Complex. The Trojans begin play on Friday against Dayton at 5 p.m.

Troy plays a doubleheader on Saturday facing Dayton at 12 p.m. and Missouri State at 2:30 p.m., before wrapping up the tournament against Austin Peay at 12 p.m. and Mercer at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Troy (7-4) enters the Trojan Warrior Tournament coming off a loss at Alabama on Wednesday in Tuscaloosa.

Senior Kate Benton has been explosive at the plate batting .481 and recording 13 hits on the young season. Two of the four hits against Alabama came from Benton. Hannah Day is hot on Benton's heels hitting .371 with 13 hits, 11 runs and 15 RBIs. Day is second in the nation with six home runs on the year and 11th nationally in home runs per game.

Dayton (3-2) travels to Troy looking to improve their record on the young season. The Flyers traveled to Chatanooga, Tenn., to compete in the Chatanooga Tournament and came away with three victories against UT Martin, IPFW and Detroit. This will be the first time Troy and Dayton will meet.

Missouri State comes in with a 4-4 record after dropping two games to Western Kentucky and Murray State in the Holiday Inn Hilltopper Classic. The final two games of the tournament were cancelled against Austin Peay and Murray State. The Bears have victories over Western Kentucky, Northern Colorado and Texas Southern on the young season. Missouri State and Troy will meet for the first time this weekend.

Mercer enters the weekend 3-6 on the season with wins over St. Bonaventure and Central Michigan. Troy and Mercer have met 31 times and Troy leads the series 24-7.

Austin Peay (2-3) comes to Troy after dropping games against Gardner-Webb and Murray State. The Governor's two wins were against Gardner-Webb and Western Kentucky. Troy leads the series against Austin Peay 7-3.
