Troy Baseball Hits the Road for Series with Southeastern Louisiana

TROY, Alabama – The Troy baseball team is set for its first road test of the 2016 season when they travel to Hammond, La., for a three-game series with Southeastern Louisiana beginning on Friday night at 6 p.m.

Saturday's game is set to begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday's finale is slated for a 1 p.m. start. Free audio broadcasts will be available all weekend on TroyTrojans.com. Friday and Sunday's game can be heard at 94.7 WTBF with Saturday's game aired live on WTBF AM970.

Troy (5-0) is one of eight teams in the country to begin the 2016 season 5-0. The last time Troy went 5-0 was in 2011 and 2013, where both teams made an NCAA Regional appearance.

The Trojans are coming off a 2-1 win over UAB on Wednesday and a four-game sweep of Northern Kentucky on opening weekend.

Grant Bennett gets the Friday night nod for Troy. He started opening night and earned the win pitching six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Lucas Brown will start the second game of the series. He tossed eight scoreless innings on just 74 pitches and earned the win against Northern Kentucky.

Closing the series for Troy will be Evan Hebert, who earned his first start for the Trojans last weekend. The Loreauville, La., native threw six innings, gave up one earned run on four hits and struck out three.

Joey Denison leads the Trojans on offense with a .400 batting average, two doubles and two RBIs. Brandon Lockridge enters the series with a .333 batting average, a double, a triple, a home run and a team-high five RBIs.

Southeastern Louisiana (3-1) is coming off a midweek win over Alcorn State and took two-of-three from ULM on opening weekend. The Lions finished the 2015 season 42-17 with a 25-5 record and a first place finish in the Southland.

Louisville Slugger Player of the Week, Kyle Cedotal, will get the start for Southeastern Louisiana on Friday. The senior left-hander pitched a complete game shutout against ULM last Friday and struck out 14 Warhawks. Mac Sceroler will matchup against Brown on Saturday, while the senior Domenick Carlini will get the start for game three of the series.

Troy leads the overall series with Southeastern Louisiana, 5-3. The last time the Trojans and Lions met was in 2013 at Riddle-Pace Field, where Troy won the game 3-1.
