TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on No. 4 Alabama at Rhoads Stadium on Wednesday with the first pitch set for 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast live by SEC Network+.
Â
Troy (7-3) is coming off a 3-2 weekend at the Troy Softball Complex with a pair of victories over Tennessee Tech and one over Eastern Illinois. Two of Troy's three losses on the year have come in extra innings.
Â
The Trojans enter the week ranked seventh nationally with 1.6 home runs per game. Troy, who set a school single-season record with 51 homers last season (0.93 per game), have hit 16 home runs through its first 10 games this season. The Trojans also rank 16th nationally averaging 7.9 runs per game.
Â
Hannah Day had a monster weekend for the Trojans with seven hits and seven RBIs. She hit three home runs on the weekend, two of them coming against Eastern Illinois and one of those being a grand slam. Day is now second in the nation with six home runs on the year and fifth nationally with 0.6 home runs per game.
Â
Becca Hartley is close behind Day in the home run category as she ranks fifth nationally with five homers on the young season. Additionally, she has scored 13 runs and driven in 14 runs in the Trojans' 10 games. Kate Benton leads the Trojans in batting average with a .458 mark. The speedy senior has scored nine runs and driven in three runs.
Â
Ashley Rainey leads the Trojans pitching staff with a 4-3 record and 12 strikeouts in 28 innings of work. Rainey has a 3.00 ERA and opponents are batting just .241 against her.
Â
No. 4Â Alabama (10-1), who made it to the Women's College World Series last year, is coming off an undefeated tournament weekend. Andrea Hawkins leads the Crimson Tide offensively with a .462 batting average, 12 hits and four RBIs.
Â
Alabama won a highly-contested matchup, 5-2, when the two squared off last April. Troy struck first by scoring a run in the top of the fourth inning and pushing another run across the plate in the fifth, but Alabama answered quickly by scoring four runs of its own in the bottom of the fifth and the last run in the bottom of the sixth to seal the deal. Â
Â
Following the game at Alabama, Troy returns home to host the Trojan Warrior Tournament this weekend at the Trojan Softball Complex.
