Troy Softball Falls at No. 4 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Troy softball team fell at No. 4 Alabama on Wednesday at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama (11-1) broke open a 1-0 ball game with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Marisa Runyon got the hits started when she doubled to center field. Peyton Grantham came up behind her and sent a long ball over the center field wall to make the game 3-0. Mari Cranek delivered another big blow two batters later sending a three-run home run blast out to right field.
Troy's (7-4) couldn't push a run across the plate in five innings despite having four hits on the night. Senior Kate Benton had a two hit night with a single to third base and a single up the middle. Hannah Day singled in the first inning and Heather Johnston singled to right field to round out the Trojans' four hits.
Senior Ashley Rainey (4-4) suffered the loss for the Trojans in the circle allowing 10 hits and facing 19 batters.
Troy returns home this weekend to host the Trojan Warrior Tournament at the Troy Softball Complex with their first game set to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday. Teams participating are Mercer, Austin Peay, Missouri State and Dayton.
