Troy Inks Third Signing In Malik Burnett

TROY, Alabama – Troy men's basketball coach Phil Cunningham announced the signing of Malik Burnett, a 6-foot-3, 180 pound guard from Lee High School in Huntsville, Ala.
Â
"Malik's signing is a terrific way to close out the early signing period for us," Cunningham said. "He's a play-making guard who can not only score with his quickness and athleticism but can stretch the defense with his ability to shoot the three.  In fact, I was an eyewitness to the game in Suwanee last July when he made the first seven 3-pointers he attempted in one of the summer's best AAU tournaments.  Malik is a four-year starter at Lee High, which is one of the strongest high school programs in our state, and he becomes our fifth in-state signee.  Coach Marcus Grant did an excellent job as the lead recruiter on Malik."
Burnett, the ninth-ranked player in the state according to HoopSeen.com, has helped lead the Generals deep into the playoffs in his first three years, including an appearance in the 6A AHSAA Championship game two years ago.
Â
He averaged 16.0 points per game and 6.0 assists per game as a junior this past season while also being recognized as one of the team's best defenders.
Â
On the AAU circuit this past summer, Burnett played for the Madison County Warriors and averaged 22 points and seven assists per game.
Â
The highlight of his summer came at the Best of the South Tournament in Suwanee, Ga. where he had a 42-point performance aided by 8-of-11 3-point shooting.
Â
The addition of Burnett along with Javan Johnson last week means that the Trojans have signed two top-10 recruits in the state according to the HoopSeen.com rankings.
