Troy Soccer Falls on Road to ULM
10/21/2016 8:11:00 PM | Soccer
MONROE, Louisiana – The Troy soccer team dropped an important Sun Belt Conference match on the road, 3-2, to ULM on Friday.
Â
Freshman Qarli Stone put the Trojans on top in the 20th minute when she dribbled through the defense and beat the ULM goalkeeper to the far post.
Â
After the Warhawks responded three minutes later, sophomore Alison Watkins landed her first career goal to give Troy a 2-1 advantage. Again ULM responded, this time just before halftime.
Â
The Warhawks (7-8-2, 4-4-1 SBC) found the game-winner in the 49th minute.
Â
QUOTABLE
"It was a very disappointing game, we only had one or two players play well and that isn't going to be enough to win a game at any level," head coach Jason Hamilton said.
Â
"We only gave up five shots, but three went in the goal. There was a real lack of pride in defending today. ULM looked like the team that was desperate to get into the tournament and we played like a team that was already safe. Now, it's the opposite, we are on the outside looking in with a very deep hole we may not be able to get out of."
UP NEXT
Troy (7-8-3, 3-4-2) faces off against Little Rock on the road on Sunday in the team's regular season finale. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Â
NOTEWORTHY
• Freshman Qarli Stone made her first career start. She had made 14 appearances prior to Friday.
Â
• Stone scored her second career goal in the first half.
Â
• The loss was the first by Troy to ULM in nine meetings.
