Trojans Fall in Double Overtime
10/2/2016 2:45:00 PM | Soccer
STATESBORO, Georgia – For the fourth consecutive match, the Troy soccer team played into overtime. But, the Trojans fell to Georgia Southern, 2-1, on Sunday at Eagle Field.
Julia Winter scored the lone goal for Troy in the 72nd minute to tie the game at 1-1. Georgia Southern (5-7-1, 2-4 SBC) took the lead in the 62nd minute and finished the game off with an overtime goal in the 102nd minute.
In Winter's first career goal, Annabell Simpson laid off a pass to Brooke McKee deep inside the penalty area. McKee played it back to Simpson, who chipped a short pass ton Winter in front of goal to set up the score.
QUOTABLE
"This was a disappointing result," head coach Jason Hamilton said. "It was another game where we should not have lost or tied, but we were unable to be opportunistic in front of the goal and then we made poor decisions in overtime to lose the game.
When you make yourself play an extra 30 minutes over the weekend because you're unable to finish the game in regulation, you make it extremely hard on yourself to get any kind of results, especially on the road."
UP NEXT
Troy (5-6-3, 1-2-2) travels to face in-state rival South Alabama on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
NOTEWORTHY
• The Trojans have played four straight overtime matches and have gone into overtime in six of their last seven outings.
