TROY, Alabama – Coastal Carolina jumped out to an early lead then added another goal late to seal a 2-0 victory over Troy on Friday at the Troy Soccer Complex.
Â
The Chanticleers (9-4-2, 6-1-1 SBC) opened the scoring just two minutes into the game when Montanna Hill headed down a lofted cross and Daniella Famili fired home the shot. Coastal Carolina, leaders in the Sun Belt Conference standings, put the final nail in the coffin in the 79th minute when Baylee Price hit a rocket from 25 yards out that sailed over Troy keeper Mikki Lewis' head.
Â
Troy matched CCU in shots, 14-14, but were unable to take advantage of several good looks.
Â
QUOTABLE
"When you dig a hole (early), it's always going to be difficult to play," head coach Jason Hamilton said.
Â
"We knew exactly how they were going to play; they are an athletic team and we had a good game plan and we did a fairly good job of executing that game plan. We had 14 shots, we've got to do a better job of putting the ball into the back of the net."
UP NEXT
Troy (6-7-3, 2-3-2) hosts Texas State on Sunday at 1 p.m. Senior Day recognition will take place 15 minutes prior to kickoff.
Â
NOTEWORTHY
• The loss was the just the third for Troy is its last 27 matches at home.
Â
• The shutout loss marked the first time Troy has been held goalless in a loss at home since Louisiana Tech defeated the Trojans 2-0 on Aug. 30, 2013.
