TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's tennis team will enter its spring season ranked No. 63 in the nation as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released it's Oracle/ITA Division I Men's National Team Rankings on Tuesday.
Troy, the defending Sun Belt Champion, is the highest ranked Sun Belt team and the second highest ranked team in the state, just two spots behind No. 61 Auburn.
Troy's No. 63 ranking is the same ranking it finished with last season after a 25-7 campaign that included the program's second Sun Belt title and second NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Trojans return their entire lineup from last season, minus only Gabriel Dias. Hassan Ndayishimiye, who posted a 22-6 singles record last season, is Troy's top returner but did not play this fall.
Giovani Samaha led the Trojans this fall with an 8-3 singles record that included two wins over ranked opponents. Samaha also picked up a ranked doubles win with Pablo Moreno as the pair went 5-3 in the fall.
Troy opens its season with three road matches in five days against ranked teams, beginning at No. 36 Louisville on next Friday, January 15. Troy then will take on No. 24 Florida on January 17 and No. 19 Ole Miss on January 19.
Troy will then travel to No. 2 Oklahoma for the prestigious ITA Kick-Off Weekend on January 22.
In all, Troy has 15 opponents on its 2016 schedule that are currently ranked, including No. 73 South Alabama, the only other ranked Sun Belt team.
