BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Troy's pentathletes wrapped up competition yesterday at the Samford Multi Invitational, which was hosted at the CrossPlex and included 24 student-athletes from seven schools.
In her first pentathlon as a Trojan, freshman Gemma Finch won two of the five events. She tied her personal best in the high jump with a 1.66-meter (5'05.25") clearance for first place and cruised to victory in the 800-meter run in 2:22.11 minutes – an indoor personal best. Finch and junior Riley Schwietz completed the series of five events with scores of 2,746 and 2,450 points, respectively.
"For Gemma, I was very pleased to see her turn in great performances in the high jump and 800," head coach Marc Davis said. "She's a true competitor, but needs a little more consistency on the long jump runway. Riley had a nice showing in the hurdles and shot put. Many things went well, but we still have a lot of work to do in the weeks leading up to the indoor conference championship."
This weekend, the women's squad will travel to the CrossPlex again for the Emory Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 24.
