Cross Country to Kick Off 2015 at the JSU Struts Season Opener
9/3/2015 9:52:00 AM | Cross Country
OXFORD, Alabama – The Troy men's and women's cross country teams will open their season on Friday, September 4, as they will compete in the 10th annual JSU Strut's Season Opener. The meet, which is held at Oxford Lake Park, will start with the women's 4K at 6:30 p.m., followed by the men's 5K at 7 p.m.
"Oxford Lake Park is a flat and fast course, which should help us start the season with solid 4K and 5K times to set us up for the championship distances," head coach Elliott Blount said. "Training has been going well, but we need to see how we compete as a team. We'd like to leave the meet confident in where we are with our training."
This year's meet will draw its largest field of teams, 19, with more than 300 runners competing. Sun Belt rival Georgia State will be in attendance to provide the Trojans with an early measuring stick for their progress toward the conference meet. Troy will also compete against SEC opponent, Georgia.
On the men's side, Dylan Ogburn and Joe Giese will look to start their sophomore seasons on a strong note after finishing first and second, respectively, for the Trojans in last year's opener at JSU.
For the women, senior Julia Ostendorf and junior Mikayla Hodges aim to continue the success they had in 2015 as Troy's top finishers in most of the meets.
Final results will be posted on Friday on TroyTrojans.com. Fans can keep up with the action by following Troy track and field and cross country on Twitter @TroyTrojanXC_TF and Instagram @TroyTrojansTFXC.
