Women's Tennis Adds Five to 2015-16 Roster

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis team has added five players to its 2015-16 roster, head coach Rawia Elsisi announced on Thursday.
The five newcomers join a pair of returning sophomores Sanae Ohta and Jiayuan Xue. Joining the Trojans are three transfers, Efriliya Herlina, Nancy Karaky and Alicia Rodrgiuez, and two true freshmen, Luisa Ferrauti and Tereza Melicharkova.
"I am very excited to have this group of young talented student-athletes joining our Troy family," Elsisi said. "Their tennis backgrounds, diversity and team chemistry will have a major impact in the future success of Troy women's tennis."
Herlina, a native of Jakarta, Indonesia, comes to Troy as a sophomore and is currently the No. 11 ranked women's player in Indonesia. She has ranked as high as No. 241 in the ITF Junior World Singles rankings and as high as No. 3 in the Indonesia junior rankings.
Karaky comes to Troy as a sophomore after spending last season at Murray State. The Beirut, Lebanon, native was named the OVC Freshman of the Year and helped the Racers win an OVC Championship. She posted a 19-4 singles record in 2014-15, including a 7-2 mark in OVC play.
Prior to attending Murray State, Karaky was the No. 1 ranked women's player in Lebanon and was ranked No. 630 in the ITF rankings. She also won the West Asian Championship and the Asian Championship.
Rodriguez comes to Troy as a junior after spending the last two seasons at Lindsey Wilson College, an NAIA member in Kentucky. The Bogota, Columbia, native finished 2014-15 ranked No. 9 in the ITA National Singles rankings after being ranked as high as No. 3 during the season.
She helped Lindsey Wilson to the semifinals of the NAIA Tennis Championships in both 2014 and 2015. Prior to attending Lindsey Wilson, Rodriguez was the No. 1 ranked junior in Colombia.
Ferrauti, a native of Bruehl, Germany, participated in the German Junior Championships and earned an ITF Junior ranking after playing in several ITF tournaments. She was also nominated as a squad player by her regional tennis federation.
Melicharkova, a native of Liberec, Czech Republic, has been playing for the LTK tennis club since 2007. She has competed in ITF and ETA events throughout her career, earning an ITF world ranking of No. 1,238 and and ETA ranking of No. 800. She is the No. 116 ranked women's tennis player in the Czech Republic.
The Trojans open their fall season at the Mercer Gridiron Classic on October 9. Troy will then travel to Auburn for the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships, which begin on October 15.
